Frederic Knapp (1821-1889) was minister from 1847 to 1855 of the First Parish Church on Walnut St. (Note: "S.S." = Sunday School). He graduated from Harvard College in 1843, Harvard Divinity School in 1847, became the junior pastor at the First Parish Church in 1847, and succeeded Rev. John Pierce as pastor in 1849.
In an interesting twist, Knapp grew up in Walpole, New Hampshire, his father remained there, and Knapp was a frequent visitor. Adeline spent the just-past summer in Walpole, often meeting the Knapps there, and the Faxons would permanently relocate to Walpole a few months after this diary entry.
Mary Heath Wild Cushing
Mary Cushing (1829-1903) was the daughter of Charles and Mary Wild who lived half a mile away on Washington St. She had recently married Edward Jarvis Cushing and moved to Providence. Adeline observes here that "she looks just as Mary Wild did".
