Adeline refers to the Post Office as the "office", it was housed in the Village train station (the sign, fairly washed out in this photo, is just under the upper gutter of the station, on the left). This circa 1865 photo is very similar to what Adeline would have experienced as she walked down Harvard St. to the Post Office. On the upper left, by the large tree, is the house of Lizzie Davis.
Elizabeth ("Lizzy") Ann Davis
Lizzie Ann Davis (1827-1855) was the daughter of Benjamin Davis, this is her house on the southwest corner of Washington St. and Davis Ave. Adeline Faxon would have walked past the house, looking very much as it did in the circa 1865 photo, on her way to the post office in the train station. Lizzie Ann Davis died of consumption at the age of 28 and is buried in the Walnut Street Cemetery. Her death is also mentioned on page 30 of the diary of Mary Wild.

Cornelia Fay (1834-1869) lived right next door at 43 Linden Street. Cornelia was Adeline's age but Adeline expressed reservations about her in this diary. Cornelia was an accomplished pianist and organist for the nearby St Paul's Episcopal Church. It was there that she met her future husband, a son of the pastor.
Edward Augustus Dana
Edward Augustus Dana (1819-1897), lawyer, lived on Washington St., near Park. Adeline referred to him as "flirtatious".
