Hannah Stearns
There are two girls of Adeline's age named Hannah Stearns at this time in Brookline. One was Hannah Clark Stearns (1835-1903), age 15, daughter of Marshall Stearns who lived on Sewall Ave. near Kent Street. The other was Hannah Pierce Stearns (1833-), age 18, daughter of Charles Stearns and Nancy Flagg, who lived in what would become Coolidge Corner.

In the text, the author theorizes on boyhood, country life style, marriage, travel, and dreaming... Mitchell writes on four different themes: Smoke, Flame, and Ashes Sea Cole and Anthracite A Cigar three times Lighted Morning, Noon and Evening. The first two reveries were originally published in 1849 in the magazine Southern Literary Messenger and in 1850 the four essays were published in book format to great public acclaim. It was one of poet Emily Dickinson's favorite books.
