Feb 28th
Mary, Watty and I took tea with Mrs. Candler, & John. Made a call in the afternoon on Mrs. Windsor -- Mrs. Atkinson,
Sund.
M.W. & I went to church all day -- It was the first of March & communion day -- We took Rachel up with us and spent the eve. at Edward Atkinsons -- snowed fast when we came back and very cold -- Stormed horribly all Mond. high wind. March 2nd. so we had a nice day from Mary
Tues.
I rode down to Prov. depot with her. She left us for Prov. Called at Mrs. Davis on the way. Weather about 15 above.

Wednes. March 4th

Dr. quite driven with med. work -- out late every night. I feel the extreme changes in the weather, but my mind is not so] much troubled as it was a year, or two years ago -- Of course I suffer less physically. God knows all -- and has mercifully given me strength to endure, and now I hope I lean upon Him, instead of an arm of weak humanity -- My children are far from me but that trial can be made, lighter, in many ways. They visit me & write to me, and I know they are good & happy.
Thurs. 5th
I finished my new double wrapper gown.
Frid. 6th
took my fur tippetTippet to pieces & made it over. Worked most two days on it.
Sat.
I swept & dusted parlors thoroughly, up before the sun. Very cold blustering weather. Thermom. 12 above Z.
Sund. 8th morn.
Clear & cold. I wrote a letter to Dr. E.A. Wild, directed it to him in Rome Rome [written twice] -- about ten days after.
Wednes. 11th
I went to the Boston theater with Watty.
Sat.
Mr. Phipps spent Frid. night here. Returned to E.B. Sat.
Sund.
Dr. Hedge -- all day -- I walked home in the afternoon.
Tues. 17th
I called on Mrs. Charles Stearnes & Mellen -- invited them & Mrs. Candler to tea all eng.
Wednes.
Went in to Boston with Dr. to meet Watty & go to the theater just half an hour late. Had to sit in the buggy while Dr. made 3 visits then came home with him. Watty went back to Cam. with Belden. Heavy rains in night & morn. roads horrible.
Thurs. 19th
Went in to the theater with Dr. Saw Miss Agnes Robertson in the "Life of an Actress."Agnes Robertson Very good. Warm foggy weather afternoon & eve. Showery.
Frid. 20th
[Mainly?] a cold snowstorm. Watty settled up with Katy Early to April 2nd 1857. It being just a year from the last settlement. We read a letter fr. Ellen dated Const Feb. 12th 1857.
Sund. 22d
Dr. Hedge & Putnam. I wrote to the Cushings. Also to Laura. Dr. WheelwrightDr. Wheelwright very sick.
Tues. 24th
I took a long ride with Wat. to Dorchester.
Wednes. 25th
Watty went to Prov. In the afternoon Mary Ann [Brackett] --

Agnes Robertson (1833-1916) and her husband Dion Boucicault (1820-1890) were appearing in one of his plays at the Boston Theatre.

Dr. Charles Wheelwright

Dr. Charles Wheelwright (1817-1862) was the older brother of Susan Candler. They bought the house known as the Candler Cottage together in 1850.

Charles was a surgeon in the U.S. Navy. He died of disease while in service in the Civil War in 1862.
