Underground RR Plaque
This is the plaque in front of the Tappan-Philbrick mansion commemorating Philbrick's work in assisting slaves to escape.

Wealthy citizens of Brookline did own slaves; several were buried in the Old Burying Ground. At least one Brookline slave interred in the Old Burying Ground fought in the Revolutionary War -- Adam, a slave of the Gardner family.
