Mond. Jan’y 10th 1853
Mond & Tues.
Shirt work — and put down the carpet in my chamber. 
Wednes.
Went up to the church to sew, heard of Betsy Howe’s death,Betsy Howe rode home in Davis carriage. Bethan went up to Prov. at 11 o’clock. I found aunt S. CushingAunt S. Cushing here, and hope to keep her for some time. 
Thurs. 13th
Dr. E.A. returned from New York, on matters from Prov. last[?]. Charly in poor health and Ed found some sick at Mary’s. Bethan Davis etc.
Frid. 14th
Susan Wood made us a call. She was staying at the Spooners, a few days. A nice ball in the village. The Candlers. Dr. Ed. &c. -- went. Snowed all day Thurs-Frid.
Sat. 
Fine day. Good sleighing. We got a letter fr. Mary. Bethan better. Rev. Phipps called. Rev. Whitney married 10th.Rev. Whitney I gave Wat. a dol. to pay Mr. Phipps. Dr. Charles had a bad fall on the ice at home. Watty went to M. Fund concert. Took Lizzy Wilson -- could not get S. Wood.
Sund 16th
I went to church in morn. Rev. K. prch. Weather severe. Cold snowy. I wrote a letter to my poor sick & weak Charly in N. York. 
Mond.*
Wat went over to C. I gave him 5$ to pay Mac[?] etc. I repaired sack for E.A. and pants — great [???] coat for Dr. C. & cut out 3 shirts for E.A.
Tues.
Ed. Cushing spent night here.
Wednes.
Mrs. Atkinson & Mrs. Amos A.Mrs. Atkinson & Mrs. Amos A. called. — Abby P.Abby P. I paid her 2$ for likeness of Dr. Pierce. S.Wood & Mrs. S. Cushing went to the city. — Mrs. Wood to go Mond. aft. to Phil — 1’25 for Aunt Susan C. She gave it back
Thurs. 20th of Jan.
I called at the Davises to see that Bethan was better. Mrs. Widow Thayer aged 83 years buried this day. 
Frid.
I finished my broadcloth cloak and went to the rehearsal. Bought satin ’31 cts. for bonnet. ribbon 37 - frame bonnet. 25 cts. I called at Wilsons -- Mrs. Cushing there.
Sat.
I made over my black velvet bonnet. Worked all day. Ann & Susan Heath called.Ann & Susan Heath 
Sunday
Mr. Knapp preached but it rained so hard that I did not go to church. We read & had a nice quiet Sabbath.
About 20th
I paid the bakers bill for Dec. -- 4'48
Tues 25th
Rec. a letter from S.S. Wood who arriv. safely home. E.A. rec. letter [med?] from Charly. 3 shirts made this week for E.A. [Then?] I wrote a letter to Angelica & P.S. in E.A.'s' letter to the Woods
Frid.
Rehersal. I did not go. Father more unwell.
Sat 29 [????]]
I gave Watt. 28 cts. Aunt Cushing came here from the Wilsons. I went to the concert in the eve. Musical fund. Miss R. Cushing went to B. to stay over Sunday. Kate’s horse was stolen. Thurs night -- Dr. Frances  & Watty found her next day. Thankful was I to see the good old beast. Aunt Susan, Wat & self went to church this Sund. morn 30th. Staid at home & read the afternoon. I got a letter from Charly this week.

Elizabeth (Heath) Howe, (1769-1853), was the second wife of Mary Howe's grandfather John Howe.

Susan Barrett (Jarvis) Cushing, (1786-1862). She was the sister of Mary's mother's first husband and the mother-in-law of Mary's daughter Mary.

Rev. Frederick Augustus Whitney, (1812-1880), pastor of the First Church in Brighton, married Elizabeth Perkins Matchett, (1809-1892), in Brighton.

Mrs. Amos A. is Anna Greenleaf (Sawyer) Atkinson, (1795-1871). Mrs. Atkinson is likely her daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Staig) Atkinson, (1824-1904), who married George Atkinson, (1822-1915), in May 1852.

Abigail Lovell Pierce, (1806-1896), daughter of Rev. John Pierce and his wife Lucy.

Sisters Ann Eliza Heath, (1797-1878) and Susan Heath, (1795-1878).
